New paper: Emotional AI, soft biometrics and an unusual consensus on privacy

New out with Big Data & Society is ‘Emotional AI, soft biometrics and the surveillance of emotional life: An unusual consensus on privacy’. Full paper here.

What’s it about? This outlines emotional AI, considers key applications, reports on UK citizen perspectives and outlines industry views about emotional AI and privacy. Perhaps the most interesting thread though is the meed for a more collective approach to privacy. It’s too easy to think in terms of “My privacy” and, given the deployments of emotional AI (and other psycho-physiological sensing tech) coming down the line, we need to think about “Our privacy” now.
