Computers, Privacy and Data Protection conference (aka #CPDP2020)

It’s a wrap! Andrew McStay from the Emotional AI Lab was lucky enough to introduce and moderate a panel on emotional AI and toys featuring Frederike Kaltheuner (Mozilla), Gilad Rosner (Eleos and the IOT Privacy Forum), Ben Bland (Sensum and IEEE) and Giovanna Mascheroni (Università Cattolica of Milan).

Up first at 8:45am in the Grand Halle (which really is big), the goal was to bring together academic, industrial and civil society expertise to address the rise of emotional AI and empathic technologies, with a special focus on children's toys and services. While we were interested in human rights, social [pre]caution, privacy and data protection concerns, we were also interested in domestic life and the micro-practices of what it means to live with systems that function by means of data about affect and emotion.
