Looking forward to 2020: CPDP and SxSW

Two big announcements: I’m organising a panel for the Computers, Privacy and Data Protection (CPDP conference in Brussels, Jan 2020. Working title is Emotional AI and Empathic Technologies: Rights, Children and Domestication. I’m organising and moderating, but the panel will feature: Dr. Frederike Kaltheuner of Privacy International (also in receipt of a Mozilla Fellowship); Dr. Gilad Rosner of the Internet of Things Privacy Forum; Ben Bland of the empathic technology firm Sensum; Dr. Giovanna Mascheroni is part of the EU Kids Online network and editor of the groundbreaking book, The Internet of Toys: Practices, Affordances and the Political Economy of Children's Smart Play.

Myself and Pamela Pavliscak of ChangeSciences/Pratt Institute (New York) are also very very pleased to announce that myself and Pamela Pavliscak’s application to host a panel at South by Southwest has been accepted. This is a festive conference of film, interactive media and music festivals take place in March, Austin, Texas. Certainly a spectacle, we;’re very chuffed to be presenting ‘New Ethics in the Emotion Economy’ and raising consciousness (OK, hopefully!) on need to think beyond law/human rights when it comes to emotion and affect-focused technology.
